Master of Business Administration (MBA) - Integrated Management Programme

The M.B.A. programme is a two-year part-time course in a distance learning mode with residential weekends. It focuses on building and developing managerial skills for a rapidly changing environment. Additionally, a one-year preparatory course (Stage I) for students without prior studies in business is offered, which is also designed as a part-time course with residential weekends. The programme is a cooperation between Fachhochschule Osnabrück and Buckinghamshire Chilterns University College. On successful completion of Stage I, students will be awarded the Buckinghamshire Chilterns University College Postgraduate Certificate in Management (CM).

 

Students achieving good grades may continue to Stage II for the award of Postgraduate Diploma in Management Studies (DMS) and then on to Stage III for the double-degree of Master in Business Administration (MBA) which is awarded by both institutions, the Buckinghamshire Chilterns University College and the Fachhochschule Osnabrück (University of Applied Sciences).

 

All stages are run as a part-time course in a distance learning mode with residential-weekends. In addition, students may study the same programme at other colleges in the UK and in Europe, and also in different modes, such as part-time/evening or even full-time.

 

Aims

The aims of the CM/DMS (Stage I/Stage II) courses are to build effective managers and to improve managerial performance. In particular to develop:

  • an understanding of the theory and techniques associated with management;
  • an awareness of the functions of management and the relationships between them;
  • management effectiveness in a changing environment;
  • analysis and problem solving skills;
  • interpersonal skills.

 

The MBA (Stage III) course concentrates on management in a rapidly changing international environment. The course aims to develop conceptual understanding and practical application of management.

 

Target group

The programme is designed for business graduates with professional experience. Students will be seeking to progress their management careers or move from professional or specialist expertise into a general management role. Graduates of non-business related courses with professional experience can be admitted to the MBA programme by joining the CM (Stage I) course. The main target groups are:

  • employees having reached the first step of a professional career;
  • employees having grown into a management position;
  • graduates seeking a deeper knowledge about management;
  • middle management building on their experience and seeking a formal qualification;
  • motivated employees seeking a position in higher management of private or public organizations.

 

Teaching Methods and Learning Organisation

Teaching and learning methods are characterized by a mixture of format lectures, case studies, coaching sessions, videos, guest speakers, business games, work presentations by students, phases of individual and group work. Summer University, company visits and outdoor training are offered. Communication during distance learning phases will be via phone, fax and email. Additionally, an internet based learning platform offers discussion and chat opportunities with professors and students and allows the electronical linking of learning groups at partner institutions and thus the building of international teams. Video-conferencing is possible. Teaching language is English exclusively.

 

All teaching areas are offered as separate modules which are accredited on the basis of an academic credit system. Modules can also be carried out as Summer Universities in cooperation with foreign partner universities. Residential phases normally take place at Fachhochschule Osnabrück. Single modules can also be taken at partner institutions in other countries where there are parallel courses.

Teachers include highly qualified professors from the cooperating universities with excellent academic and business experience as well as expert guest speakers from enterprises.

 

Awarded Degree

Successful students obtain a double-diploma: the academic degree Master of Business Administration (MBA) is awarded by both institutions, the Fachhochschule Osnabrück and the Buckinghamshire Chilterns University College.
