Staff and lecturers of the Faculty of Business Management and Social Sciences, of the International Office and of the Central Advisory Office for Studies assist students in study-related and personal matters. This service includes all supportive assistance and measures which facilitate a rapid integration into a new social environment.

Besides the counselling of German students, another focus is counselling and support of foreign students who shall be assisted in organising their life and studies in Germany independently and successfully so that they feel content here right from the start.

Support before studies

The period between the admission to the study programmes in International Business and Management (B.A. and M.A.) and the beginning of studies is around three and a half months (for applicants from non-European countries). Within this period the students see to obtain a visa in time, if required, and to prepare for their study stay in Germany.

At this point in time Fachhochschule Osnabrück offers the following services:

Forwarding of further information on admission and on studying and living in Osnabrück (in English)

Sending of letters to German embassies and consulates. Besides the student's personal data the letters contain the request to support the concerns expressed and a brief information on the study programme.

Intensive German language course: the central International Office of Fachhochschule Osnabrück offers a four-week intensive course "German Language Summer School" for different proficiency levels before the commencement of studies. These language courses are complemented by a comprehensive leisure programme which aims to facilitate foreign students the first days after their arrival in Germany and to get settled at FH Osnabrück. The programme includes tours at the university, company visits, trips and joint cultural activities.

Assistance in finding an accommodation in Osnabrück

Support at the beginning of studies

For the study programmes International Business and Management (B.A. and M.A.) the beginning of lectures is the end of September. Therefore all foreign students should be in Osnabrück at the latest by mid-September.

FH Osnabrück offers the following services:

Permanent availability for discussion of problems in the first few days.

Accompaniment by student tutors when going to public authorities, insurance companies, banks etc. and support in filling in and preparing various forms and documents relating to registration and enrolment.

On-call service provided by tutors so that help can be given at short notice, if required.

Orientation aids in the university and everyday student life provided by mentors or buddies (students in higher semesters) at the beginning of studies. Comprehensive counselling in groups and individually regarding organisational and content details of the study programme.

Orientation rally to get to know the town - together with all the other freshmen in the Faculty of Business Management and Social Sciences, organised by the students' representatives.

All-day event directly after the beginning of the semester within the lecture "Communication" so that the whole study group can get to know each other.

Support during studies

In the course of their studies foreign students keep on getting intensive personal counselling and support, as well as:

German intensive language courses at different levels running parallel to studies. Besides learning the technical terms, these focus on the acquisition and improvement of the proficiency in colloquial language.

Imparting of practical knowledge inter alia by practitioners in teaching who give the students an understanding of business structures and processes already during their academic education. Business-oriented study trips/company visits are organised and, if desired, internships in companies can be arranged.

Study trips and participation in cultural activities together with the foreign students of other study programmes or with German fellow students.

Social events

Students who do not return to their home country during holidays like Christmas and Easter are invited to spend these days with families in Osnabrück.

Regular evaluations and feedback talks with the responsible programme coordinators regarding the study progress and the acceptance of the different offers.
